Do you remember playing hide & seek as a child? For some of us, we may have even played a more adult version of the game. Hide & seek was always more fun when I was the one that hiding instead of the one that was seeking. It was fun to find a really good hiding space and crouch down being very quiet while the “seeker” tried to find me. It was always funny because I could hear them right in my area but if when I had a really good hiding spot, they would never find me.
As fun as that game is, I’m so glad that God does not hide when we seek Him. In fact, when we seek God, He makes Himself available to us. Isaiah 55:6 (AMP) reminds us to “Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call on Him [for salvation] while He is near.”
I’m so grateful that God has given me the invitation to seek Him. I’m glad that God is not hiding from me. God is not ignoring me, nor is He running around and looking for me in odd places. God is just simply answering when I call Him. God makes Himself near to me when I’m broken-hearted and He reveals His plan and purpose of life and victory to me. When I seek God, He comforts me and whispers hope into my life and situation.
God has given each of us an opportunity to seek Him for refuge. God is a present help when we’re in trouble and He is shadow for us to abide within. Seeking God doesn’t have to be complicated. To seek God and His presence is as simple as us praying and asking God to be near us. Seeking God may also look like us reading our Bible for encouragement when we’re stressed and overwhelmed. The power of God is activated when we pray and when we read His word. Simply put, when we call upon God for peace, joy, salvation, help, hope and for everything else in between, He is near to hear and help us!
